Acne on its own is bad enough for anyone to deal with. The scabs and scars acne causes after it is long gone is a reminder of that pesky bump that wouldn't go away and all the stress associated with it. Here are some tips to help with the healing process after acne so that you don't end up with scarring.

First things first, if you've caved in and picked at your acne you've already started off on the wrong foot. However, if you can control yourself for a couple days without attacking the blemish then there is hope. To treat scabs and open blemishes be sure to clean the area with a gentle soap or a little alcohol on a piece of cotton. Apply Neosporin 3-4 times per day to the area and leave it alone. These two steps are enough to prevent scarring.

In the future it would be best to follow a protocol that is more skin-friendly when it comes to treating your acne. Don't squeeze pimples until you see a little white head on them. To speed up a pimple to come to a head, apply a cold (not hot!) compress to the area 3-4 times per day as needed for 10-15 minutes. You do not want to use a hot compress because the heat will draw the blood to the surface and make the area red and inflamed. You can also use a little Visine to help bring down the redness until you are able to get the gunk underneath out.
